Our school recognises the value of playtime for children which is why we have prioritised developments in play over the last 18 months by engaging in the Outdoor Play and Learning (OPAL) programme.

It is incredible to reflect on just how far we have come with the play opportunities for our children. It is not that long ago KS2 only had access to the front playground and now the children are flourishing in their play. A huge transformation has taken place – thank you so much for supporting us with this approach. We hope that you have seen the benefits of this in your children.

Key improvements include:

  • A shift in our knowledge of what play is and why it is so important.
  • Skilled staff – access to training throughout the programme.
  • Staff dedicated to ensuring play opportunities are the best they can be.
  • Play that is regularly celebrated and discussed with children.
  • Play that promotes equality, accessibility, choice, challenge for all and inclusion.
  • Improved access to areas of school that inspire play such as the field in all weathers and access to nature.
  • A risk-benefit approach that is now embedded – play assemblies etc.
  • Loose parts play has now been introduced which ensures variety.
  • There are well distributed zones and activities including a range of social spaces, physical challenges and opportunities for imagination – dressing up, music, sensory spaces etc.

We are very proud of this transformation and of how children show excitement and enthusiasm for what has been done!

We will shortly being having our OPAL assessment and would appreciate it if parents could complete the parent survey please – thank you for your support.
