What is Eco-Schools?

Eco schools is a programme that encourages us to care for our school and wider environment by becoming aware of sustainable development issues. These include Litter, Waste Minimisation, Transport, Healthy Living, Energy, Water, School Grounds and Global Citizenship.

What does sustainable development mean?

Sustainable development means meeting the needs of today’s people without affecting the needs of future generations. We can be sustainable and environmentally aware by making sure we do simple things like turning off our televisions and computers rather than leaving them on standby.

The Awards

The first two levels of the Eco-Schools award are the Bronze and Silver certificates. The top level of award is the Eco-Schools Green Flag.  We achieved this in July 2020.

The Eco Committee at the Howard School

We have an Eco Committee in place to help the school achieve the Eco School awards. The Eco Committee meet at least once every half term to discuss how to make the school more sustainable.
