Music is a very important part of life at the Howard School; every year group has access to curriculum music, singing and instrumental lessons. We aim to foster a love and appreciation of music along with providing access to instrumental lessons with clear progression routes.

We have invested substantially in the Wider Opportunities initiative through Wakefield Local Authority which has enhanced our provision and the opportunities we can offer the children greatly. As well as whole class music lessons such as ukulele and African drumming there is also the opportunity for children to undertake peripatetic lessons across a range of instruments.

We expect all children who are learning an instrument to practise regularly – we recommend practising at least four times a week. This will ensure progression and success!

We also have a school choir who performs at events such as school fairs and out in the community.

Each year we hold a musical extravaganza concert where the children get to showcase their talents.

We currently hold the gold arts mark award.
