On the 6th February this year, Her Majesty became the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee 1952-2022, marking 70 years of dedicated service to the people of the United Kingdom, the Realms and the Commonwealth.

To celebrate this unprecedented anniversary, a number of activities and actions were undertaken in school and in collaboration with Ackworth Parish Council.

  • The Queen’s Green Canopy - Tree planted in school in recognition of the occasion.
  • Commemorative gift to all children – Beebom wildflower seeds.
  • Activities exploring and investigating the Queen throughout the decades, producing work representing each significant period of her reign as well as other class activities.
  • Non-uniform day with everyone encouraged to dress in red, white and blue.

We also had our extra special lunchtime offering children the opportunity to experience a ‘street party’ on the front playground. The children enjoyed their special party food in honour of the queen and prepared by our wonderful kitchen staff. Before eating, we all performed the national anthem.

What celebration is complete without music? The children travelled back through time during the party by listening to a special playlist of songs from every decade the Queen has been on the throne. It even included a couple of the Queen’s favourites!
