The documents below outline what the children will be learning this half term. As well as the Curriculum Planning Overview which outlines what the children will be learning across the curriculum in a half term we have also introduced Knowledge Organisers to help us develop children’s knowledge and understanding of the world. This document contains the essential knowledge that children will be learning as part of the topic they will be studying in class.
Within school, Knowledge Organisers will be used in various ways including the recall of knowledge through discussions, recalling previous learning, as a pre teaching resource, a prompt in books, as a resource in lessons and to connect learning. It may also be used for homework tasks.
We would encourage you to discuss the Knowledge Organisers with your children at home. Here are some examples of how to extend their learning:
• Children read the information from the section to be learned (possibly with an adult)
• They then try and recall the information (this can be written down or verbally)
• An adult tests them on the information
• It is also important to keep revising the information that has already been learned in previous weeks to keep it fresh in the memory
Knowledge Organisers will help children to develop knowledge on a wide range of topics and will significantly improve their vocabulary. This, in turn, will make them more confident in class and help to develop their reading and writing skills.
