Exciting news at Ackworth Howard!
Solar for Schools met with our Key Stage 2 School Councillors (our mini project managers!) on Thursday for a workshop. The children learned all about miniature solar panels, how they work, how to fit them, and more – including an exciting experiment to see how they generate power! This will be followed up in the near future with a whole school assembly.
Ackworth Howard is the 200th school to join the Solar for Schools Community Benefit Society, and the very first in Wakefield! Double celebrations for us!
Ann Flaherty, Director of the CBS, shares: "The installation at Ackworth Howard marks a tremendous 200th school milestone for Solar for Schools Community Benefit Society. Working with forward-thinking councils and dioceses like Wakefield and the Diocese of Leeds means we can bring low-cost, zero-carbon solar electricity and hands-on education that inspires all generations to act more sustainably to schools nationwide. We support teachers, students, and estate teams to work towards a more sustainable, lower-carbon future."
The installation of the 120 panels will be completed early next week, and we look forward to being featured in the local press soon!
