As we celebrate an incredible milestone—191 years of educating and nurturing young minds—we are filled with immense gratitude and pride to be part of this remarkable journey.
The Howard School has witnessed generations of children grow, learn, and flourish. This is a testament to our shared commitment to education and the bright future we are collectively shaping.
This year’s theme, “The Howard School’s Living History,” was inspired by a fascinating letter I recently received from the great-great-granddaughter of a pupil who attended our school in 1849. In her letter, she described how embroidery was an essential part of learning in those days—a glimpse into the school’s early life that sparked the idea for this year’s celebration.
To bring this history to life, it was wonderful to read your contributions and memories of school life, from playtimes and school dinners to events, traditions, lessons, and how behaviour was managed. These memories were shared with the children, who then created artwork and written pieces based on their own experiences of school life. A display will be available for viewing during our Macmillan Coffee Morning on 27th September. At the end of the day, we had a celebration worship where each class shared samples of the work they had completed, and upholding tradition, we sang "Happy Birthday" to the school.
Children also dressed in school uniforms from a range of historical periods, adding to the sense of connection with our past. It was lovely to see parents enjoying the school’s historical documents on display in the hall as well.
As we look to the future, we are excited about the endless possibilities it holds. Together, as a community, we will continue to provide the best possible education, nurturing the talents and dreams of our children and preparing them for a world full of opportunities.
Thank you for being part of our school’s rich history and promising future. Here’s to the next 191 years of excellence in education and the proud parents who make it all possible.
