Great news! We have provided a home for 4 chickens and they are settling in really well. The children have all had the opportunity to suggest names and a draw took place to choose the winners. Our chicken’s names are – Waffle, Speckle, Jemima and Alexa.

Not only will the children learn about the world and how they can care for living things, but they will be rewarded with a flock of funny, inquisitive, life-enriching feathered friends to enjoy. It won't be long before they are back to full health and relishing the delights of free range retirement, hopefully laying an occasional egg in gratitude for their second chance in life!

A big thank you to the British Hen Welfare Trust and the Letwell rehoming point for their support and guidance. They find caring homes for tens of thousands of ex-commercial laying hens every year. Without them, these wonderful creatures would otherwise be destined for slaughter.

Update - Waffle, Speckle, Jemima and Alexa are thriving and doing really well. The children are enjoying looking after them and they have been laying many eggs. The first box has already been shared with Mrs Telford in the kitchen!
